Smoking, aging, and expression of proteins related to the FOXO3 signaling pathway in lung tissues

Y. M. Yuan, Luo, L., Guo, Z., Yang, M., Lin, Y. F., and Luo, C., Smoking, aging, and expression of proteins related to the FOXO3 signaling pathway in lung tissues, vol. 14, pp. 8547-8554, 2015.

We investigated the effects of smoking and aging on proteins involved in the forkhead box O3 (FOXO3) signaling pathways in the lungs. Sixteen senescence-accelerated mouse-resistant 1 (SAMR1) and senescence-accelerated mouse-prone 8 (SAMP8) mice at 3 months of age were divided into a normally aged, smoke-exposed group (4 SAMR1 mice), a normally aged, air-exposed group (4 SAMR1 mice), an aging-accelerated, smoke-exposed group (4 SAMP8 mice), and an aging-accelerated, air-exposed group (4 SAMP8 mice).

Age-related changes in mitochondrial UCP, ANT and COX III gene expression in the breast muscle of quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica)

Efficient conversion of food into body mass has been associated with altered gene expression of some proteins of the electron transport chain. We evaluated the effect of age on mRNA expression of uncoupling protein, adenine nucleotide translocase and cytochrome c oxidase complex III in quails. One-day-old broiler quails were sacrificed after 7, 14, 21, or 28 days. Six quails of each age were slaughtered by cervical dislocation. Total RNA was extracted from the breast muscle and reverse transcribed into cDNA. Real-time PCR analysis was performed using specific primers for the genes.

Y., and Wang, J., Expression of tyrosine hydroxylase and growth-associated protein 43 in aging atrial fibrillation patients of Xinjiang Uygur and Han nationality, vol. 12, pp. 5257-5266, 2013.

The aim of this study was to explore the changes in gene and protein expressions of tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) and growth-associated protein 43 (GAP43) in aging atrial fibrillation patients of Xinjiang Uygur and Han nationality, and the significance of the changes. Real-time polymerase chain reaction and Western blot analysis were used to detect gene and protein expressions of TH and GAP43 in atrial tissues of 54 patients with valvular heart disease.

Apolipoprotein E polymorphism in elderly Japanese-Brazilian immigrants does not explain the reduced cardiovascular risk factor incidence

N. Terra, Moriguchi, Y., Bittencourt, L., Trois, R. S., Piccoli, J. E. C., and Cruz, I. B. M., Apolipoprotein E polymorphism in elderly Japanese-Brazilian immigrants does not explain the reduced cardiovascular risk factor incidence, vol. 10, pp. 1975-1985, 2011.

Study of immigrant populations may contribute to a better understanding of the epidemiology of diseases associated with the aging process. We examined the prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors, including apolipoprotein E (ApoE) polymorphism, in elderly subjects who were born in Japan, migrated to South Brazil and have lived in that region for over 40 years, versus a group of elderly, locally born Brazilians living in the same region. These Japanese subjects came to Brazil after World War II (1950-1960) from several Japanese cities, mainly Nagasaki, Kumamoto and Hokkaido.
