We investigated the effects of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) gene silencing on Survivin expression in HepG2 cells. Small interfering RNA technology was used to downregulate AFP expression in HepG2 cells. An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to measure AFP concentration in the supernatant before and after transfection. An MTT assay was used to detect cell proliferation activity before and after transfection.

Sublingual vein parameters, AFP, AFP-L3, and GP73 in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma

J. Zhao, Guo, L. - Y., Yang, J. - M., and Jia, J. - W., Sublingual vein parameters, AFP, AFP-L3, and GP73 in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma, vol. 14, pp. 7062-7067, 2015.

This study evaluated the diagnostic value of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), AFP heterogeneity 3 (AFP-L3), Golgi protein 73 (GP73), and sublingual vein parameters in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Levels of serum AFP, AFP-L3, GP73, and sublingual vein scores were measured in 34 patients with chronic hepatitis, 65 patients with post-hepatitis B cirrhosis, 71 patients with HCC, and 6 healthy controls. Logistic regression analysis was used to explore potential correlations.

Characterization of yolk sac proteins of Bos indicus cattle embryos

F. S. Matsumoto, Oliveira, V. C., Mançanares, C. A. F., Ambrósio, C. E., and Miglino, M. A., Characterization of yolk sac proteins of Bos indicus cattle embryos, vol. 11, pp. 3942-3954, 2012.

The yolk sac is an embryonic membrane that is essential for the embryo’s initial survival in many mammals. It also plays an important role in the production of proteins necessary for development. We studied proteins of the yolk sac in bovine embryos at up to 40 days of gestation. We examined the yolk sac of 17 bovine embryos at different gestational periods, measuring α-fetoprotein, α-1-antitrypsin, and transferrin. This experiment was carried out by Western blot technique, associated with electrophoresis on a 6% sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel.
