Potential of berberine to enhance antimicrobial activity of commonly used antibiotics for dairy cow mastitis caused by multiple drug-resistant Staphylococcus epidermidis infection

X. Zhou, Yang, C., Li, Y., Liu, X., and Wang, Y., Potential of berberine to enhance antimicrobial activity of commonly used antibiotics for dairy cow mastitis caused by multiple drug-resistant Staphylococcus epidermidis infection, vol. 14, pp. 9683-9692, 2015.

Berberine is a plant alkaloid with antimicrobial activity against a variety of microorganisms. In this study, the antimicrobial properties of berberine against multi-drug resistant field isolates of Staphylococcus epidermidis were investigated using berberine alone or in combination with a commonly used antibiotics in veterinary clinics, including penicillin, lincomycin, and amoxicillin. The results indicated that the minimum inhibitory concentrations of berberine, penicillin, lincomycin, and amoxicillin against field S.

Drug resistance analysis of bacterial strains isolated from burn patients

L. F. Wang, Li, J. L., Ma, W. H., and Li, J. Y., Drug resistance analysis of bacterial strains isolated from burn patients, vol. 13, pp. 9727-9734, 2014.

This study aimed to analyze the spectrum and drug resistance of bacteria isolated from burn patients to provide a reference for rational clinical use of antibiotics. Up to 1914 bacterial strain specimens isolated from burn patients admitted to hospital between 2001 and 2010 were subjected to resistance monitoring by using the K-B paper disk method. Retrospective analysis was performed on drug resistance analysis of burn patients. The top eight bacterium strains according to detection rate.

Successful treatment of pituitary abscess with intravenous antibiotics: a case report and literature review

H. Zhu, Gu, X. M., Hong, J., and Shen, F. X., Successful treatment of pituitary abscess with intravenous antibiotics: a case report and literature review, vol. 13, pp. 10523-10528, 2014.

Pituitary abscess is a rare intrasellar infectious disease. It is usually treated with a combination of surgical drainage and intravenous antibiotics. We describe the case of a 38-year-old man with headache, fever, left earache, subsequent diabetes insipidus, and anterior pituitary insufficiency due to pituitary abscess, which was confirmed on the basis of clinical symptoms, laboratory examination results, and magnetic resonance imaging features.

Seixas, Brocchi, M., Manfio, G. P., and Silva, D. Wanderlei, Drug resistance in Chromobacterium violaceum, vol. 3, pp. 134-147, 2004.

Chromobacterium violaceum is a free-living bacterium commonly found in aquatic habitats of tropical and subtropical regions of the world. This bacterium is able to produce a large variety of products of biotechnological and pharmacological use. Although C. violaceum is considered to be non-pathogenic, some cases of severe infections in humans and other animals have been reported. Genomic data on the type strain ATCC 12472T has provided a comprehensive basis for detailed studies of pathogenicity, virulence and drug resistance genes.
