C., and Alencar, M. M., Genetic correlations between visual slaughter conformation scores and growth and reproductive traits in Canchim cattle, vol. 15, p. -, 2016.

We obtained heritability and (co)variance component estimates for slaughter conformation scores at 420 days of age (SCS420), age at calving (first, AFC; second, ASC), calving occurrence until 38 months of age (CP38), weight at 420 days of age (W420), and scrotal circumference at 420 days (SC420) in Canchim (5/8 Charolais + 3/8 Zebu) cattle. A total of 23,168 records of Canchim animals, including 12,493 females and 10,675 males, were analyzed. SCS420 indicated carcass structure, muscle development, and subcutaneous fat deposition.

Bayesian inference to study genetic control of resistance to gray leaf spot in maize

M. Balestre, Von Pinho, R. G., and Brito, A. H., Bayesian inference to study genetic control of resistance to gray leaf spot in maize, vol. 11, pp. 17-29, 2012.

Gray leaf spot (GLS) is a major maize disease in Brazil that significantly affects grain production. We used Bayesian inference to investigate the nature and magnitude of gene effects related to GLS resistance by evaluation of contrasting lines and segregating populations. The experiment was arranged in a randomized block design with three replications and the mean values were analyzed using a Bayesian shrinkage approach. Additive-dominant and epistatic effects and their variances were adjusted in an over-parametrized model.

Genetic correlations between heifer subsequent rebreeding and age at first calving and growth traits in Nellore cattle by Bayesian inference

A. A. Boligon, Baldi, F., and Albuquerque, L. G., Genetic correlations between heifer subsequent rebreeding and age at first calving and growth traits in Nellore cattle by Bayesian inference, vol. 11, pp. 4516-4524, 2012.

We estimated heritability for subsequent rebreeding (SR) of heifers and genetic correlations between this trait and weaning weight (WW), weight gain from weaning to yearling (WG), age at first calving (AFC), and mature cow weight (MW), in order to evaluate whether SR could be included as selection criterion in Nellore cattle. The SR of heifers was defined by attributing a value of 1 (success) or 0 (failure) to heifers that calved or not, respectively, given that they had calved once before. Records from 127,430 Nellore animals were analyzed.

Incorporation of genetic marker information in beef cattle breeding programs

F. M. Rezende, Incorporation of genetic marker information in beef cattle breeding programs, vol. 12. pp. 5172-5173, 2013.

The availability of molecular marker information has turned out to be an opportunity to improve animal breeding programs, by the inclusion of those effects in the estimation of breeding values.

Phylogeny of major lineages of galliform birds (Aves: Galliformes) based on complete mitochondrial genomes

Complete mitochondrial DNA sequences have been used successfully to estimate phylogenetic relationships among animal taxa, and for studies of population genetics and molecular evolution. We made phylogenetic analyses of 22 species of Galliformes, with two species of Anseriformes as outgroups, using maximum likelihood (ML), maximum parsimony (MP) and Bayesian inference (BI) methods based on the nucleotide dataset and the corresponding amino acid dataset of 13 concatenated protein-coding genes.
