Folate metabolism is essential for DNA synthesis and repair. Alterations in genes that participate in folate metabolism can be associated with several types of malignant neoplasms, including thyroid and breast cancer. In the present case-control study, we examined the association between methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR C677T, rs1801133) and methionine synthase (MTR A2756G, rs1805087) polymorphisms and risk for thyroid and breast cancer.

Genetic polymorphisms and haplotype of hormone-related genes are associated with the risk of breast cancer in Chinese women

Z. Pan, Fu, Z., Song, Q., Cao, W., Cheng, W., Xu, X., Pan, Z., Fu, Z., Song, Q., Cao, W., Cheng, W., and Xu, X., Genetic polymorphisms and haplotype of hormone-related genes are associated with the risk of breast cancer in Chinese women, vol. 15, p. -, 2016.

Sex hormones play important roles in breast cancer (BC) development. This study investigated associations between BC risk and hormone-related gene variants in Chinese women. In a cohort of 336 patients with histopathologically confirmed BC and 390 age-matched controls, we genotyped seven single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in five hormone-related genes: estrogen receptor-α (ESR1), aromatase (CYP19), catechol-O-methyl transferase (COMT), sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), and glutathione S-transferase (GSTP1).

Expression and clinical significance of Kelch-like epichlorohydrin-associated protein 1 in breast cancer

Our objective was to explore the expression and clinical significance of Kelch-like epichlorohydrin-associated protein 1 (Keap1) in breast cancer tissue. Eighty-one breast cancer patients having undergone surgical treatment in our hospital between March 2002 and December 2008 were enrolled in this study. Normal tissue adjacent to tumors was used for the control samples. Diagnoses for all patients were confirmed by postoperative pathological examination.

Tristetraprolin: a novel mediator of the anticancer properties of resveratrol

C. Li, Tang, C., He, G., Li, C., Tang, C., and He, G., Tristetraprolin: a novel mediator of the anticancer properties of resveratrol, vol. 15, p. -, 2016.

Resveratrol is a natural compound that exhibits anticancer properties. Previous studies have proved that it can inhibit the proliferation of breast cancer cell lines and upregulate some cytokines such as cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). The initiation and progression of cancer are associated with the abnormal expression of multiple cytokines. Tristetraprolin (TTP), an mRNA-binding protein, is one of the key proteins that participate in regulating cytokine expression.

Investigation on the role of XPG gene polymorphisms in breast cancer risk in a Chinese population

S. H. Ma, Ling, F. H., Sun, Y. X., Chen, S. F., Li, Z., Ma, S. H., Ling, F. H., Sun, Y. X., Chen, S. F., and Li, Z., Investigation on the role of XPG gene polymorphisms in breast cancer risk in a Chinese population, vol. 15, p. -, 2016.

We conducted a case-control study to investigate the role of XPG gene polymorphisms (rs2094258, rs751402, and rs17655) in the development of breast cancer. Patients with breast cancer (320) and control subjects (294) were consecutively selected from the Zhongshan Hospital between April 2013 and January 2015. The genotyping of XPG rs2094258, rs751402, and rs17655 was performed using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism.
