This meta-analysis investigated the correlation between the PPARγ2 Pro12Ala polymorphism and cardiovascular disease (CVD). Electronic database and manual searches were conducted to retrieve studies published relevant to the PPARγ2 Pro12Ala polymorphism and CVD. Rigorous inclusion and exclusion criteria were employed for selection of high-quality patients-control studies.
Abnormalities in the breast cancer tumor suppressor genes (BRCA1 and BRCA2) are associated with breast and ovarian cancer. Recently, two single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs; rs11571836 and rs1799943) were identified, both located in untranslated regions of chromosome 13, associated with cardiovascular disease (CVD) in a multi-ethnic population. We examined the association between these BRCA2 polymorphisms and traits of CVD patients from Saudi Arabia. We genotyped rs11571836 and rs1799943 in 159 unrelated CVD patients and 176 healthy controls.
Visfatin, an adipocytokine involved in metabolic and immune disorders, plays an important role in the etiology of cardiovascular disease. Recent evidence has shown that an elevated plasma level of visfatin may increase the risk of myocardial infarction (MI), but individual published studies have shown inconclusive results. This study aimed to obtain a more precise estimate of the association between the plasma visfatin level and MI risk through a detailed meta-analysis of studies published in peer-reviewed journals.
Activation of the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor g (PPARg) improves insulin sensitivity and inhibits atherosclerosis. Whether PPARg2 Pro12Ala polymorphism affects myocardial infarction is not clearly understood. We investigated a possible association of PPARg2 Pro12Ala polymorphism with obesity and myocardial infarction in Han Chinese in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, China. We included 121 subjects with myocardial infarction and 137 healthy controls in our study.
