5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) is widely used in chemotherapy for treatment of colorectal cancer. Leucine-rich repeat-containing G protein-coupled receptor (LGR) is known to participate in the occurrence and development of breast cancer by regulating the rebirth of tumor vessels. This study aimed to explore the proliferation and apoptosis of HCT116 colorectal cancer cells treated with 5-FU and related molecular mechanisms. 5-FU (20 μg/mL) was used to treat cultured HCT116 cells.

Role of salubrinal in protecting cardiomyocytes from doxorubicin-induced apoptosis

N. Gong, Wu, J. H., Liang, Z. S., Jiang, W. H., and Wang, X. W., Role of salubrinal in protecting cardiomyocytes from doxorubicin-induced apoptosis, vol. 14, pp. 12377-12385, 2015.

We determined whether salubrinal can protect cardiomyocytes from doxorubicin-induced apoptosis and explored the related mechanisms to provide experimental evidence for exploring novel drug candidates to decrease cardiac toxicity. Neonatal rat cardiomyocytes were isolated, cultured in vitro, and pretreated with salubrinal (10, 20, or 40 μM) to observe their response to doxorubicin-induced cell apoptosis.

miRNA-146a induces vascular smooth muscle cell apoptosis in a rat model of coronary heart disease via NF-κB pathway

Z. W. Wu, Liu, Y. F., Wang, S., and Li, B., miRNA-146a induces vascular smooth muscle cell apoptosis in a rat model of coronary heart disease via NF-κB pathway, vol. 14, pp. 18703-18712, 2015.

The aim of this study was to investigate the role of miRNA-146a in modulating the function of vascular smooth muscle cells in a rat model of coronary heart disease. Vascular smooth muscle cells were isolated and cultured from the rat coronary heart disease model and normal rats (controls). miRNA-146a levels were measured in vascular smooth muscle cells obtained from rats with coronary heart disease and control rats.
