Effect of UBE3C polymorphisms on intramuscular fat content and fatty acid composition in Duroc pigs

P. Supakankul, Mekchay, S., Supakankul, P., and Mekchay, S., Effect of UBE3C polymorphisms on intramuscular fat content and fatty acid composition in Duroc pigs, vol. 15, p. -, 2016.

Ubiquitin protein ligase E3C (UBE3C) is involved in the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway, and several ubiquitin protein ligases are important for fat deposition and lipid metabolism. The objective of this study was to analyze the association between a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) of the UBE3C gene with intramuscular fat (IMF) content and fatty acid (FA) composition in Duroc pigs.

Molecular characterization, tissue expression profile, and single nucleotide polymorphism analysis of the periostin gene in swine

D. Xu, Ma, H. M., Xiao, D. F., Xu, D., Ma, H. M., and Xiao, D. F., Molecular characterization, tissue expression profile, and single nucleotide polymorphism analysis of the periostin gene in swine, vol. 15, p. -, 2016.

Periostin, also called osteoblast-specific factor 2, is an important regulator of bone, cardiac development, and wound healing. A recent study revealed that periostin plays an important role in tumor development and is upregulated in a wide variety of cancers. However, little is known about periostin in swine. Therefore, the cDNA sequence of the porcine periostin gene was obtained by rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE).

Differential expression of FUT1 and FUT2 in Large White, Meishan, and Sutai porcine breeds

To assess the relationship between the expression of a(1,2)-fucosyltransferase (FUT1 and FUT2) genes and resistance to Escherichia coli F18 in weaned pigs, FUT1 and FUT2 expression levels in Large White, Meishan, and Sutai pigs (with resistance to E. coli F18) were determined using real-time PCR. The results revealed that FUT1 and FUT2 expression levels were higher in the liver, lungs, kidneys, stomach, duodenum, and jejunum than in the muscle and heart.

Molecular characterization and tissue expression profile of porcine Ephrin-B2

D. Xu, Ma, H. M., Xu, D., and Ma, H. M., Molecular characterization and tissue expression profile of porcine Ephrin-B2, vol. 15, p. -, 2016.

Ephrin-B2 (EFNB2) is a signaling molecule that plays an important role in cell adhesion, proliferation, and migration in humans. However, little is known about this molecule in pigs. In order to investigate whether EFNB2 is associated with the skeletal muscle in pigs, we cloned the full-length cDNA of EFNB2 (GenBank accession No. KF500033) from the longissimus dorsi muscle of Yorkshire pigs by rapid amplification of cDNA ends.
