Several studies have been conducted on resistance sources to improve the genetic resistance of farm-grown tomatoes to arthropod pests, including phytophagous mites. In the present study, we evaluate the behavior of the two-spotted spider mite on different cherry tomato accessions to identify possible sources of resistance (repellent effect) to this pest. Disease susceptibility and genetic variability in 10 eggplant genotypes were studied after inoculating Phomopsis vexans under confined field conditions. Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers were used to assess genetic variation and relationships among eggplant genotypes. The disease index of leaves ranged 0.208-13.79%, while fruit infection ranged 2.15-42.76%. Two varieties, Dohazari G and Laffa S, were found to be susceptible, 6 were moderately resistant, 1 was moderately susceptible, and BAU Begun-1 was resistant to P. vexans.

The resistance of Castanea mollissima Shuhe-WYL strain to Dryocosmus kuriphilus and its molecular mechanism were examined. The larvae of D. kuriphilus were inoculated on the Shuhe-WYL and Qingzha strains, and mortality was observed and compared; the relative mRNA content of the OsCDPK2, receptor-like protein, OsNAC6 protein, KH domain protein, RNA-binding protein, and the bHLH genes was detected using real-time polymerase chain reaction, and then compared between the Shuhe-WYL and Qingzha strains.
