In the present study, the karyotype and chromosomal characteristics of 9 species of the Bagridae fish family were investigated using conventional Giemsa staining as well as dual-color fluorescence in situ hybridization to detect the 18S and 5S rDNA sites. In addition to describing the karyotype of several Bagridae catfishes, we established molecular cytogenetic techniques to study this group.

Genetic diversity of ITS sequences of Bursaphelenchus xylophilus

J. M. S. Cardoso, Fonseca, L., and Abrantes, I., Genetic diversity of ITS sequences of Bursaphelenchus xylophilus, vol. 11, pp. 4508-4515, 2012.

The sequence variation of internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions of ribosomal DNA has been routinely used for species identification and species-level phylogeny of the pinewood nematode, Bursaphelenchus xylophilus. In this study, the intraspecies ITS genetic diversity of B. xylophilus was evaluated. Three pinewood nematode isolates from the United States, Japan, and Portugal were used for polymerase chain reaction (PCR) ITS region amplification and sequencing.
