INTRODUCTION

Forensic entomology, the study of insects associated with forensic procedures, aims to gather information and traces that can assist an investigation, demonstrating the importance of both science and legal processes (Thyssen, 2011). Among the various uses of insects in investigations, entomogenetics combines forensic genetic techniques and the versatility of entomology.

Y-STR genetic screening by high-resolution melting analysis

J. Q. Deng, Liu, B. Q., Wang, Y., Liu, W., Cai, J. F., Long, R., Li, W. H., Deng, J. Q., Liu, B. Q., Wang, Y., Liu, W., Cai, J. F., Long, R., and Li, W. H., Y-STR genetic screening by high-resolution melting analysis, vol. 15, p. -, 2016.

Currently, the widely used automated capillary electrophoresis-based short tandem repeat (STR) genotyping method for genetic screening in forensic practice is laborious, time-consuming, expensive, and technically challenging in some cases. Thus, new molecular-based strategies for conclusively identifying forensically relevant biological evidence are required. Here, we used high-resolution melting analysis (HRM) for Y-chromosome STR genotyping for forensic genetic screening.

Structure and polymorphism of novel X-chromosome short tandem repeat loci in a Chinese Han population

Y. S. Zhu, Wu, H., and Lai, J. H., Structure and polymorphism of novel X-chromosome short tandem repeat loci in a Chinese Han population, vol. 14, pp. 15044-15049, 2015.

Recently, 5 novel X-chromosome short tandem repeat (X-STR) loci with high degrees of polymorphism were examined. In this study, we investigated the genetic distribution of these loci in a Chinese Han population. The 5 X-STR loci were successfully examined by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis in a total of 200 unrelated Shaanxi Han individuals (100 males and 100 females).
