Genetic and non-genetic effects on productive and reproductive traits of cows in dual-purpose herds in southeastern Mexico

G. M. Parra-Bracamonte, Magaña, J. G., Delgado, R., Osorio-Arce, M. M., and Segura-Correa, J. C., Genetic and non-genetic effects on productive and reproductive traits of cows in dual-purpose herds in southeastern Mexico, vol. 4, pp. 482-490, 2005.

Data on productive and reproductive performance of cows in dual-purpose herds were analyzed to determine the effect of some environmental and genetic factors on saleable milk yield (SMY), lactation length (LL), daily saleable milk per lactation (DMYL), calving interval (CI), and daily saleable milk per calving interval (MYCI) in dual-purpose herds in Yucatan, Mexico. Repeatabilities (re) for these traits were also estimated. Data were obtained from monthly visits to 162 herds from 1996 to 2000.

Genetic parameters for growth traits of a Brazilian Bos taurus x Bos indicus beef composite

G. B. Mourão, Ferraz, J. B. S., Eler, J. P., Balieiro, J. C. C., Bueno, R. S., Mattos, E. C., and Figueiredo, L. G. G., Genetic parameters for growth traits of a Brazilian Bos taurus x Bos indicus beef composite, vol. 6, pp. 1190-1200, 2007.

The genetic analysis of composite data is very complicated, mainly because it is necessary to adjust data to the effects of heterosis and breed complementarity, and because there is usually considerable confounding of these data with several other effects, such as contemporary group effects, breed composition of the animal and maternal breed composition, among others.
