Correlation analysis of ultrasonic characteristics, pathological type, and molecular markers of thyroid nodules

J. J. Su, Hui, L. Z., Xi, C. J., and Su, G. Q., Correlation analysis of ultrasonic characteristics, pathological type, and molecular markers of thyroid nodules, vol. 14, pp. 9-20, 2015.

The present study was conducted to analyze the correlation between ultrasonic characteristics, pathological type, and molecular markers of thyroid-tumor-related genes as well as to evaluate the diagnosis and prognosis of thyroid nodules. The acoustic characteristics of 130 thyroid specimens were detected. Pathological sectioning and immunohistochemical detection were performed to determine the correlation between tumor gene expression and ultrasonic characteristics. Ultrasonic testing revealed that malignant nodules were normally accompanied by lymph nodes.

Polymorphisms in the SIRT5 gene and their association with body measurement and ultrasound traits in Qinchuan cattle

L. S. Gui, Wang, H. C., Liu, G. Y., and Zan, L. S., Polymorphisms in the SIRT5 gene and their association with body measurement and ultrasound traits in Qinchuan cattle, vol. 14, pp. 3843-3853, 2015.

Silent information regulator 5 (SIRT5), a member of the Sirtuin family class III nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide-dependent protein deacetylases, plays an important role in metabolic and aging processes in mammals. We identified 4 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) (G22010A, G22052A, G22119T, and G22245C) in the 3' untranslated regions of the SIRT5 gene from 572 Qinchuan cattle by sequencing and investigating their association with growth and ultrasound traits. The frequencies of genotype GG and allele G were high at the 4 SNPs.

Enhancement of recombinant adeno-associated virus mediated transgene expression by targeted echo-contrast agent

Ultrasound-targeted microbubble destruction (UTMD) has been recently developed for destroying bubbles carrying drugs or genes, thereby permitting local release of these target molecules. We investigated whether SonoVue®, a new contrast agent that contains phospholipid-stabilized microbubbles filled with sulfur hexafluoride vapor, is effective at delivering a recombinant adeno-associated viral (rAAV) vector to the rat heart by UTMD.

Overexpression of HSP27 in cultured human aortic smooth muscular cells reduces apoptosis induced by low-frequency and low-energy ultrasound by inhibition of an intrinsic pathway

B. Zhang, Zhou, H. S., Cheng, Q., Lei, L., and Hu, B., Overexpression of HSP27 in cultured human aortic smooth muscular cells reduces apoptosis induced by low-frequency and low-energy ultrasound by inhibition of an intrinsic pathway, vol. 12, pp. 6588-6601, 2013.

We investigated in vitro the effect of low-frequency and low-energy ultrasound (LFLEU) on apoptosis of an overexpressed HSP27 human aortic smooth muscle cell (HASMC) line. A frequency of 42.6 kHz was used in all experiments. HASMC were exposed to ultrasound and cell viability was evaluated by MTT reduction. Overexpressed HSP27-HASMC was constructed on a pcDNA3.1 vector. Apoptosis was determined 24 h after treatment by flow cytometry; gene display was evaluated with Affimax chips, and HSP27 mRNA and protein expression levels were measured by RT-PCR and Western blotting.

Phenotypic and genetic parameters compared during repeated measures of longissimus muscle area and subcutaneous fat thickness in Nelore cattle

T. R. Pinheiro, Mercadante, M. E. Z., Albuquerque, L. G., Cyrillo, J. N. S. G., and Branco, R. H., Phenotypic and genetic parameters compared during repeated measures of longissimus muscle area and subcutaneous fat thickness in Nelore cattle, vol. 10, pp. 2944-2952, 2011.

Real-time ultrasound is currently used for in vivo carcass evaluation of beef cattle. We estimated heritability and repeatability coefficients for ultrasound-measured carcass traits in Nelore cattle. We measured longissimus muscle area, backfat thickness, and rump fat thickness in male and female animals ranging in age from 10 to 26 months. The variance components were estimated by single-trait analysis using the derivative-free restricted maximum likelihood method, under an animal model.
