Curraleiro Pé-Duro is a rustic bovine taurine breed found in Northeast of Brazil; this breed has decreased its production potentially in order to adapt to the region environment conditions. Consequently, it is under risk of extinction and is maintained at a preservation center in Piauí State, Brazil, as a source of genetic material adapted to local conditions. We analyzed genetic ... more

Genetic diversity; Simple sequence repeats; Upland cotton

The genetic diversity of 51 upland cotton cultivars with different parental origins and breeding periods that were developed in Hubei Province was studied on the basis of 237 mapped simple sequence repeat markers covering the cotton genome. A total of 108 polymorphic primer pairs amplified 196 loci; the polymorphism information content range was 0.04 to 0.83, with an average of 0.46. A ... more

EST-SSR; Genetic diversity; SSR; Tomato varieties

The genetic diversity and relationship of 42 tomato varieties sourced from different geographic regions was examined with EST-SSR markers. The genetic diversity was between 0.18 and 0.77, with a mean of 0.49; the polymorphic information content ranged from 0.17 to 0.74, with a mean of 0.45. This indicates a fairly high degree of diversity among these tomato varieties. Based on the ... more

Genetic diversity; Palm tree; Population management; Similarity coefficients

The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of management on the genetic structure of natural populations of Attalea speciosa in the State of Piauí, Brazil, using random-amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers. Three babassu populations under different management systems were selected. Polymerase chain reactions were performed for 20 RAPD primers. A total of 146 bands ... more

Fengshui forest; Genetic diversity; Nanmu; Nature reserves; Phoebe bournei (Hemsl.) Yang

Fengshui forests (sacred groves) are important in traditional Chinese culture and home to many endangered species. These forests may provide protection for some endangered plant species outside the nature reserves, but little is known about their role in genetic conservation. Using inter-simple sequence repeat (ISSR) markers, we compared the genetic diversity of 6 populations of ... more

cluster analysis; Diospyros L.; Genetic diversity; Simple sequence repeat marker

Persimmon (Diospyros L.) is an economically important fruit in the world, and it has been recognized as a healthy nutrient supply for human consumption. In this study, 14 microsatellite markers were developed from an AG/TC and AC/TG-enriched genomic library of Chinese persimmon Mopanshi. Twelve polymorphic markers were selected in 4 related species; these markers showed ... more

AFLP; Alfalfa; Common leafspot; Resistance; SCAR

To identify amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) markers associated with resistance or susceptibility of alfalfa to common leafspot (CLS) caused by the fungus Pseudopeziza medicaginis (Dermateaceae), bulked segregant analysis was conducted based on an F1(M × M) population of 93 plants and a BC1S population of 91 plants. Three AFLP markers, ACTCAA ... more
